You might notice that the articles published by Wise Beyond Her Years all follow a very specific format, even though the voice behind each post is always changing. Because we believe that Scripture is sufficient, we trust that it’s the main ingredient we need along with the power of the Holy Spirit through prayer to walk in righteousness. Realistically, though, we know that we live in a world tainted by sin, and finding the truths and application for our lives in the Bible can be confusing. The structure of Wise Beyond Her Years’ posts is intentional and meant to model a study, meditate, and apply approach to Bible reading for girls who shy away because “they don’t know how!” As you read we hope you will be able to trace your way through the structure and learn our writers’ process of thought for your own personal study, meditation, and application.
Every article we publish opens with an illustration to introduce the general concept of the passage it will soon exegete or pull information out to explain. It will then give a brief historical summary or description to put the main passage into its original context. This is because we need to understand Scripture as it was meant to be understood by its original hearers.
Then the post moves to a listing and discussion of the main points. The points are the timeless truths that are drawn out of the passage through studying God’s Word. In this section our writer’s will interact with the main passage and bring in other verses or cross references that support or relate to the truth, and they will help the reader better understand what Scripture is stating. We do this so that we stay true to what the Bible intends to teach us instead of reading into it what we think it means.
As the discussion of the passage concludes, we then include an example of real life application. The illustrations and hypothetical scenarios are relevant to our lives as girls! What God says in His Word about our lives is immediately noted, and then a call to action by the author is made. To conclude, the readers are challenged to complete their spiritual homework through responding to what has been brought to light. Application is so important because we are called to be “doers of the Word” and not merely hearers. This is where true heart and life transformation takes place as we grow in the Wisdom of God.
As our readers we invite you to follow along by reading the passage of Scripture for yourself, thinking deeply on the truths of God’s Word highlighted in the post, and engaging in application to your life as revealed by the Holy Spirit. We are specifically praying for you Ephesians 3:20-21, “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen”
